(Newton, MA) – Extreme Makeover: My Hometown, WCVB-TV Channel 5’s local version of the ABC Sunday night hit Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is coming to Newton to transform one of the homes of The Barry L. Price Rehabilitation Centers.
The renovations, scheduled for August 22, 23, 24 and 25, will be led by Mary Richardson, Anthony Everett, Ted Reinstein and Shayna Seymour of WCVB’s award-winning nightly newsmagazine, Chronicle. WCVB colleagues and volunteer teams will join the Chronicle team in transforming the property at the Price Center, a non-profit organization that provides support services to individuals with developmental disabilities.
Price Center residents are provided opportunities to participate in community-based work, as well as treatment and living environments aimed to foster self-confidence and to maximize physical, emotional and intellectual capability. The Price Center supports people with developmental disabilities by encouraging personal growth and participation in the community through social, living and work experiences that respect individual preference and diversity.
Coverage of this Extreme Makeover project will be featured on public service announcements, news segments and on TheBostonChannel.com.
Since its inception two years ago, WCVB’s Extreme Makeover: Hometown Edition has completed four renovations around Massachusetts. The initial project transformed an 8,000-square-foot convent in Mission Hill into a new home for the Home for Little Wanderers. The second Extreme Makeover helped finish and furnish the Bishop Street House in Jamaica Plain, one of the residences operated by the Committee to End Elder Homelessness. Last summer, as part of a general revitalization of Maverick Square, an entire city block in East Boston enjoyed an Extreme Makeover. Residents received new gutters and siding, windows, doors, window boxes and flowers. The most recent endeavor was the renovation of a satellite location of the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester that included a SportsCenter Five Zone, an updated gymnasium, study space and refurbish the interior and exterior of the building.
